Weddings
are beautiful and fun but they can take a lot of
planning. When planning a
wedding it is a great idea
to create a timetable as this will help remind you
when you need to book the church, the reception hall,
order the bridal party gowns etc. Following a timetable
will give you an overall idea of how far in advance
certain items need to be done. There are some major
items that need to be handled six months to one year
in advance. It is safe to say that if you plan on
getting married in less than one year’s time
then you must quickly get these items accomplished.
Here is a wedding planning timeline. These items
should be completed six to twelve months in advance
of the big day. The more time you have to plan the
better so start right away, do not wait till the
last minute!
Time & Date
Immediately after the announcement of your engagement
you and you fiancé will need to decide
on the wedding day basics such as time and date.
You will need to determine if you are interested
in having a weekend or a cheaper midweek wedding.
Are you both interested in having an afternoon
wedding or a more formal evening affair?
Reception Venue
Immediately after determining the date and time
of day you must select a venue for the wedding
reception. This is very important as some dates
or times during the year book more quickly then
others. It may be harder to find an available
date at your chosen reception venue when you
get closer to the wedding date, especially when
you select a holiday wedding. For example, selecting
a holiday season wedding such as a Christmas
or Valentines Day wedding will cause it to be
harder to find a venue opening, so the sooner
you book the venue the better.
Wedding Ceremony
You will need to determine six to twelve months
in advance the details of the wedding ceremony.
You will need to determine what religion will
be expressed in the ceremony, where the ceremony
will be held and you will also need to book whoever
you choose to officiate the wedding ceremony.
Budget & Organisation
You need to create a tentative budget that will
give the amounts that you anticipate spending
on the wedding. Maybe hire a wedding planner
to assist you. You may be able to find an online
wedding planner that can help you walk through
the wedding planning. A bridal consultant or
wedding planner can actually help you stick to
your budget as their organizational skills and
contacts can keep the wedding
planning organized
and reasonably priced.
Select your Bridal Party
Choose your wedding party as soon as you announce
the engagement and set the date. This should
be done before people start asking to be at the
wedding. To remove undue pressure from your family
and friends choose the bridal party members in
privacy with your fiancé. But a word of
warning, choose carefully as bad choices have
been known to mess up a wedding with bad attitudes,
stinginess, attention getting behavior and even
jealousy. Be sure to pick those people who you
genuinely love and those that care for you both
back.
Prepare according to the wedding planning timeline
and you will be sure to have everything in motion
and moving forward without any problems. If you
have a short term wedding date set (less then six
months), then the planning will be moving at a
much quicker pace and these items will need to
be accomplished within a few weeks after the engagement.
You may have to adjust the day and time to fit
the available venues and the church location may
also have to be changed. Overall, enjoy planning
your wedding, relax and enjoy your special day.
