There
are so many stressful things that are going to
go on over the next 12-15 months, or less, depending
on how soon you are to take that walk down aisle
and marry your prince charming. Us women have been
dreaming of that perfect moment since we were old
enough to remember Cinderella.
With that said, of course we want only our most
trusted and loyal, friends standing next to us.
College roommates, sisters, or other close friends
will all make good choices for a maid of honour,
but no one told you it was going to be so difficult
to choose. Just who do you choose? Will it be your
big sister, mum, roommate, cousin, or friend??
You most probably have had great memories and laughs
with all of them, how do you know which one is
the best choice as maid of honor? Well first ask
yourself these three simple questions:
Who Do I Want Standing Beside Me?
This could be a list a mile long, but try and
narrow it down to 5. Most bridal parties have one
maid
of honor, and 3 or 4 bridesmaids. However,
remember that this is your day and you can ultimately
have it anyway you want it. Now from that list,
think about your wedding day, time of year, travel
arrangements the girls will have to make, and think
about what a maid of honor does:
• The Maid of Honor is at the bride’s
side and there for her every whim:
• She will be the last one anyone sees walk
down the aisle before you
• She is there to sooth the nerves, and keep
everything in working order
• Plan an outstanding hen
night that you will
appreciate and remember!
Do I Want It To Be A Family Member?
If you are someone who is lucky enough to have
a few sisters, it can be hard to choose between
them, and maybe you shouldn’t. Your Maid
of Honor does not have to be family member. It
is of course a great honour and any close family
member would no doubt only be too pleased to be
asked to be your maid of honor.
So I choose a close friend?
A best friend is always a popular choice. You
may know someone you grew up with, went to school
with and you have known for many years. This should
be a trusted and reliable person. It is the ultimate
honour to bestow upon them, so they should be delighted.
It is time to start narrowing down that list.
Think about each of those ladies, and what characteristics
they bring out in you when you are around them.
No one else can make this decision for you.
