What
do you think about themed weddings? Do you like
the idea and are wondering about what theme to
have at your own celebration? Or do you think they
are overdone and spoil what should be a wonderful
day?
Everyone has their own ideas about themed weddings.
For some people they can be quite subtle, whereas
for others they are nothing but outlandish and
all the more memorable for that.
If you are thinking about choosing some kind of
wedding theme the first thing you need to be aware
of is the fact that not all wedding themes are
of the outrageous kind. For example if you are
getting married earlier on in the year during the
winter months you might want to use a winter theme
to tie in with this. It could literally be as simple
as having silver and clear decorations and spray
painting twigs and branches to stand in pots around
the room.
Of course some wedding themes really are at the
other end of the scale. For example a historically
themed wedding takes on a whole different period
in time. It could see you and your intended in
period dress as you are taking your vows, with
all your guests dressed in a similar manner. How
would that look in your wedding
photos?
If you do want to have some kind of theme present
at your wedding, think about how far you want to
go with it. If you are going to choose something
like the historical example above, you need to
have everyone in on it with you. It won’t
work if only the bride and groom are dressed in
the right clothing for the theme.
This is worth thinking about in more depth because
not everyone is willing to go and dress up in period
costume, or whatever other theme you might have
in mind. It takes more preparation too because
the setting and locations also need to be appropriate
and dressed accordingly.
It can often be easier to keep things simple and
choose a theme for the surroundings rather than
the people. The winter theme would be a good example
of this, as is the idea of a simple colour theme.
This could be any colour you choose, and it doesn’t
necessarily have to be reflected in the wedding
dress or any other clothing either.
You could make sure the room is decorated to reflect
the bride and groom’s favourite colours,
for example. Everything from the table cloths to
the small gifts for each guest could be themed
to bear these chosen colours in mind.
In the end everyone will have a different idea
of what makes the perfect theme. While some people
won’t stop until they have the perfect Western
wedding setting, complete with clothing and music,
others will settle for a simple theme that reflects
the time of year.
What will you opt for when your wedding day arrives?
Whatever it is, the time to start planning is now.
