Just
as it is important not to hire a photographer for
your wedding until you have received adequate answers
to a number of questions, so the same applies to
videographers too.
The first question should always be how experienced
they are in videoing weddings. Everyone has to
start somewhere but you don’t want a novice
filming your wedding – you want someone who
can prove they have plenty of experience. Don’t
be afraid to ask.
Next up you should realise that every videographer has their own way of doing things. Some will film
in a certain style while others will be more open
to providing whatever you want. You need to consider
what your own needs and wishes are and then see
if they can provide examples of that type of video
for you to see.
Some videographers won’t just rely on the
one camera – they will use two or more. Always
find out how many are involved and whether they
will operate all of them on their own. It’s
worth knowing whether there will be another videographer
present and if so, how experienced they are.
Another point to consider is how good they are
at editing. This is another reason why you should
ask to see samples of other videos they have shot
in the past. If you don’t you may end up
with a good video that isn’t very nicely
edited. Of course tastes are different and what
one person is pleased with may not delight the
next couple. The more you can find out about what
to expect and how professional the finished product
will be the better. This is why you may want to
ask around for recommendations before narrowing
things down to a shortlist of potential videographers
to ask questions to.
Ask how you will receive the finished product
as well. Will it be on video or can you have a
DVD? The latter is better since it is more up to
date. You can also ask how much additional copies
will cost and whether you will get just one copy
included in the price.
In order to ask all these questions and any more
than come to mind, make sure you can actually meet
the videographer who will be handling your wedding.
Going to a big firm may seem like a good idea but
if you cannot meet the actual videographer then
go elsewhere. This is your wedding and you need
to be 100% sure you are going to get the service
you want. Big firms will have teams of people working
for them and you may not be able to meet the individual
who will be assigned to your wedding. This isn’t
a good idea as you won’t know what to expect
until it is too late.
As you can see there are a lot of questions you
need to think about. Have you thought of more?
Write them down and don’t be afraid to get
out a list when you meet them! They want your business
and the genuine ones will be only too glad to help
you out.
